Adventuring with Hillary is a personal blog that I use to share my adventures and photos. I decided to start this website a couple of days after I managed to talk two friends of mine into joining me on my first kayak camping adventure. I love planning for trips. I may even enjoy planning for trips more than I enjoy the trips themselves. As I was doing research on how to pack a kayak for an overnight excursion, I realized that I was reading a lot of personal blogs. I enjoy reading about other peoples’ adventures, so why not share mine?
So what kind of adventuring do I like to do? I like to fancy myself a casual adventurer. I tend to gravitate towards less extreme activities such as kayaking on lakes, camping in state parks, and hiking well-marked trails. Living in the Raleigh, North Carolina area lends itself well to these kind of adventures.
The majority of my adventures these days involve towing our little Apex Nano 193BHS travel trailer to local state parks. I’m quite proud to be a woman who can easily hook up a camper and hit the road. We’ve had this camper for about three years now and it’s really the best way to camp with a little kid.
But every now and then, I get out on my own and hit the trails or water for some me-time away from my family. Motherhood can easily suck away your identity and I’m certainly guilty of letting that happen time to time. In fact, that’s exactly why I’ve decided to revamp this blog and focus on something that I love doing. One of my 2021 goals is to take a weekend backpacking trip. I may make it a solo trip or if any friends want to step up to the adventure – you’re definitely invited!
A big thank you to my husband Paul who encourages me to get out of the damn house and into nature. He also loves seeing his wife step up to drive and maintain our camper. And of course I can’t forget to mention my BBFs Cathie and Jen who are always up for a weekend trip.
Thank you for reading Adventuring with Hillary and I can’t wait to share more stories as I camp, hike, paddle, and explore!
