On Saturday, we welcomed Isabelle (Stacey’s daughter) into our kayak gang with a nice easy paddle on Beaverdam Lake in Wake Forest, North Carolina. Beaverdam Lake is a part of larger Falls Lake, where Paul and I like to take weekend camping trips. However, the Beaverdam section was dammed off into its own lake and prohibits motor boat use.
It was a beautiful day, when the sun was out to keep us warm. But it was chillier than expected when cloud cover filled the sky. We spent a few hours lazily padding along, covering about 3.5 miles total. Not a strenuous day, but enough to tire Isabelle out and earn her some ice cream on the way home.
One of the cool things about this location was the launch area; it was an old road that had been flooded when the dam was constructed to fill the lake.
About an hour into our paddle, we stopped for lunch.
I consider myself very lucky to live in the Raleigh area since there are so many places to go kayaking. Not every adventure has to be a fully-blow camping trip that takes preparation and planning. Just getting out of the house on a nice afternoon is usually enough to beat away the cubicle blues.
Here’s a gallery of other photos I took during the day:
